The Depth of Deception

When I started Run 2 Rescue I was startled at how close to home human trafficking was to our own backyard. In this last week I really began to understand the depth and scope of this crisis and that it is not just in our backyards but it has come into our homes.

There are many ways that girls are being targeted but one in particular has come up more than once in the last two weeks. This method is one that I feel we need to become more aware of because we never think it will happen to us.  The main methods these criminals use to bring girls into human trafficking is: by force, fraud or coercion.

This has many faces but what we have seen lately is that girls are being targeted who come from a religious background. The traffickers lure them to a party, or becoming a doting boyfriend, psychologically play on their beliefs, tricking them or coercing them into having sex, then videotaping their actions and then using that video tape against them.

One scenario (based on a true story) is of a girl who came from a Christian home, she had a boyfriend, who she liked a lot and he convinced her to have sex with him but she did not know he had friends in the closet video taping them. They showed her the tape, threatened to show it to her parents and demanded she come back the next day. Because of the deep shame, she came back the next night. When she came back, they gang raped her and video taped her again. They continued to threaten her using her belief and her culture against her. So she came back again and it was then - they put her to work.

What is even more tragic, her church and family did not understand the psychological warfare that was used against her and they did not understand how she got herself into this type of situation.  This draws the girl into a spiraling pit of worthlessness that she ends up going back into the lifestyle.

This is a 32 billion dollar a year industry and new girls are added to websites daily so that they can be purchased. The demand is so great that these pimps have to use force, fraud and coercion to keep up with the supply needed. Where does this overwhelming demand come from? Sexual immorality has consumed our nation, crept into our churches and it is now consuming our kids.

We need to make the church aware, we need to educate parents and we need to talk to our kids. We need to let them know what the enemies’ tactics are; we need to make them aware how the enemy is lurking to steal our children. We can’t turn a blind eye anymore, these girls and their families need a hero now. God wants to be their hero and He is sending us in.
